South Africa has become one of the premier tourist destinations in the world. A combination of exceptional value for money, spectacular natural beauty and a climate that ranges from the warm sub tropical to the Mediterranean make it a wonderful place for anyone who simply wants to be introduced to Africa. At the same time for those who want to enjoy the splendor of the African continent, but also wants to enjoy a first world experience as far as comfort and luxury is concerned South Africa should be on their bucket list.
So if you choose to visit South Africa what are the cities and towns that should be on the itinerary?
1. Cape Town.
South Africa's Mother City and arguably the jewel in the crown of South Africa's most beautiful cities and towns. There is very little that can be added to the glowing reports that Cape Town receives every year from tourism authorities across the globe.
The sheer natural beauty of Cape Town, set as it is against the backdrop of the world famous Table Mountain makes it one of the most attractive cities in the world. When you combine that with world class cuisine and a nightlife that must be experienced to be believed make this a city that should be on everyone's bucket list.
Add to that beaches that are among the most pristine on the planet and most people would be glad to spend a few weeks in the arms of Table Mountain. The Atlantic Seaboard has those fabulous beaches, but it must be said that the Atlantic is extremely cold. But on the other side of the Peninsula where Cape Town sits is the Indian Ocean, warm and welcoming and immensely family friendly.
For those who want to get away from the Mother City there is always the choice of Durban on South Africa's North Coast. It's on the edge of the Indian Ocean and has long been the playground for many of South Africa's inland elite looking to get away from the economic heartland.
This is a city that literally has it all. But the real joy comes from leaving the city along the coast either towards the North or South. The coastline is one of the most rewarding in the world. Although enormous development has taken place along the North coast it still retains much of its charm. However, for those who want to enjoy fine dining and an international shopping experience, the malls of the town of Umhlanga and the newly developed mega mall at Ballito offer plenty of opportunities.
Travel down the South coast from Durban and things get much more rustic and less developed. But there is still world class infrastructure and places to stay where visitors can let the Ocean Spray soothe them and remove the stresses and strains of modern day life. If you want a family style holiday with a healthy dose of nature and history this is the place to be.
Johannesburg is an old mining town. But today the days of the gold rush are long gone. This is Africa's center of commerce and home to more than 2 million people. It's the gateway to almost every other destination on the continent. For people looking for a vibrant place to visit Johannesburg must be on the list.
The nightlife simply shines and the food choices are world class. Visit the birthplace of Nelson Mandela and realize just how much of a Rainbow Nation South Africa is.
These three cities and towns only scratch the surface of South Africa. You'd be doing yourself an injustice not to become part of the African dream in South Africa.
